“Be strong and courageous. Don’t fear or tremble before them, because the LORD your God will be the one who keeps on walking with you—he won’t leave you or abandon you.” (ISV)
My high school graduation brings back many memories. The elation that senior year was finally done; celebrating with friends and family and the excitement of going to college . The memory that stands out the most is the moment I realized my family had left me when the graduation was over. After we had finished taking family pictures, I had gone to connect with some friends and take some more pictures. As the crowd thinned out, I began to look for my family and did not see them anywhere. I didn’t know where they had parked since my mom had dropped me off at school well before the graduation ceremony so that I could line up with all the other graduates. I made my way over to a campus pay phone and called the house (This was before cell phones!). No one answered. Finally after several tries, someone answered the phone. It turned out that my parents had driven two cars in order to get everyone to the graduation. On the way back, mom thought I was in dad’s car and dad thought I was in mom’s. They didn’t realize they had left me until they each reached the house.
We laugh about it now, but the reality is sometimes in life we feel that the Lord has forgotten us. Maybe you are facing a challenging situation and wondering why the Lord has not done something about it or taken it away. Perhaps you have been believing or praying for something for a long time and the Lord has not answered. It feels like you’ve been put on a shelf and you’re wondering why this is happening to you. It’s in times like these that Ps Jim has reminded us that heaven may be silent but it’s never deaf.
The Lord promises us that He will never leave us or forsake us. He knows what you are facing and He will see you through. He has not forgotten you or the promises and dreams He put in your heart. The Lord delights in you and has great things in store for you. You can trust Him. He has been with you from the beginning and he will not let you go. There’s a song we have been singing as a church family recently called Faithfulness. I’ve literally had the song on repeat on my iPad every day this week. One of my favorite lines from the songs is: “There’ll be a season for joy and weeping. In everything our God is faithful. His arms are open; I will come running. Now and always our God is faithful.” I want to encourage you that whatever you are facing today, the Lord is with you and He is faithful. As Ps Jim has said, “God sees, God knows and God cares.” Trust in the Lord. He is faithful and He will see you through.
